An early graphite piece that I used as the cover illustration for
the first edition of my book 'Dolphins, ETs & Angels', then published
as 'The DETA Factor' by Coleman Publishing in 1984.
As with many of my early pieces, I worked in graphite because at that point
I could sustain the meditative state required for automatic drawing only
if I used a single color. The act of having to choose different colors would
throw me back into my analytical mind. With experience I have since managed
to expand this double state of being so that I can work with color and yet
stay in the slower rhythms of meditation.
I used these early pieces as a way of allowing subconscious images rise to
the surface for clues as to what might be preoccupying me on levels of which
I had little conscious awareness. 'The Season of the Witch' helped me understand
the hidden nature of a relationship on which I had just embarked.
